The project was inspired by the call for papers of the Europa Regional journal (Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography, Leipzig) in 2014, which awaited abstracts for a special issue under the same title. The associates of the planning division of CESCI together with those of the European Institute have elaborated the abstract and started the research but it unfortunately have not finished on deadline. As a consequence our research outcomes could not appear in this special issue.
The first phase of the research has however put some interesting questions which inspired the associates to rethink the research plan and to continue the research. The outcomes of the project, expected to lasting up to one year long, will be published in the 2016 edition of Cross-Border Review and will also be reloadable from our website.
